E.P.S. WORKERS

NO HOLIDAY LEAVE Holiday leave will not be granted to the E.P.S. personnel, except for urgent reasons, which do not include personal inconvenience. The chief warden, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, said that now it was known that trans-harbour transport would not be available during ah emerfency, it was obvious that a memer of the E.P.S. could not transfer for a, holiday from one side of the harbour to the other, and at the same time expect to be able to be at his or her post in a time of emergency. There was urgent necessity to provide fire watchers for city buildings. That threw a considerable strain on E.P.S. personnel, and made necessary constant attendance of all members at their respective posts for the present. Mr. Allum added that his remarks did not apply to women with young children, who should, as far as travel facilities permitted, stake their holidays as arranged.
