OTAHUHU ZONING
MILK DELIVERY PROBLEM HOW TO SAVE PETROL. A request for the co-operation of the Otahuhu Borough Council for the reduction of petrol consumption was made by a deputation of milk vendors last evening. Mr. W. E. Mears said local .milk vendors had received advice from the Oil Fuel Controller to the effect that steps would have to be taken to reduce petrol consumption, and Mr. N. R. Chapman and Mr. A. Blake, of the Milk Council, were present to offer assistance. The Mayor, Mr. C. R.-Petrie, M.P., said he had understood that the council was to meet a purely local deputation. Mr. F. W. Grey said Otahuhu did not want Milk Council control. The local milk vendors were capable of managing their own affairs, and should receive full support in any movement which would reduce petrol consumption. He was supported by other councillors. Mr. Chapman said he was present as deputy chairman of the Food Supplies Technical Group and not as a member of the Milk Council. The approximate daily delivery in Otahuhu by eight vendors was 410 gallons, and the .monthly consumption of petrol was 458 gallons, and if the milk delivery was continued drastic action in petrol usage would have to be mads. o ■ Mr. Petrie suggested that it would have been more to the point if the vendors had supplied some concrete proposal for zoning that evening, and when Mr.-Mears said that this could be arranged early in the New Year, Messrs. "Gipey viand Sinclair were appointed as council representai tives to watch proceedings on behalf lof the local consumers.
