CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS
« REFUSE COLLECTION* (To the Editor) May I, as a resident of Grey Lynn and the mother of a young baby. p ro . test against the decision of our city fathers to discontinue refuse collection in this and other suburbs, if the Mayor and councillors do not want to be responsible for a serious outbreak of uisease and sickness they will find some way of rectifying this matter. In any case, why should some suburbs have ruboisrt collected and others not? I have a very small section, there being at most eight inches of top soil and underneath solid clay. It is impossible (especi ally in the absence of menfolk) tn bury rubbish at all deeply. Accord ing to an article in your paper a while ago, our soldiers in Egvpt have found that flies can penetrate eight feet into the sand, so wlut is the use of our covering rubbish with twelve inches of soil. I would appeal to the citizens of Auckland not to let this matter rest, but to demand that tie council rescind their decision. DISGUSTED.
