AT THE MARTS

CHRISTMAS FRUIT KEEN DEMAND ENCOUNTERED Bidding was keen for all dessert fruits at the city markets to-day. Prices varied for good supplies of strawberries, and there was a good demand for loganberries, which were scarcer. Good quality cherries were sought, and tomatoes, in shorter supply, had a keen demand. A few choice peaches realised satisfactory rates. The first of the season's hothouse grains were traded. Apricots were very dear: Potatoes, in short supply, again made record prices. Most vegetables were in firm demand owing to the holidays and brought high prices. Lettuce was cheaper. Prices were:— Fruit.—Apples: Delicious. 7/ to 13/ per ease. Tomatoes: Hothouse, extra choice. Arm. 1/8 to 1/854 Per It; others. 1/ to 1/5; outdoor, crinkled. 6d to 1/3.
