OBITUARY

MR. GEORGE li. THOMSON A resident of the Auckland province for 78 years, Mr. George Lamberton Thomson, of Middlemore has died at the age of 88. Born in Glasgow, Mr. Thomson arrived in the Dominion with his parents in 1863 in the ship Gertrude. The family settled at Matakohe. where they cleared a farm in the virgin country and lived for some 30 years. Mr. Thomson acquired a block of 340 acres at Otahuhu which he named Middlemore—now the site of the Auckland Golf Club's links and King s College. After disposing of his Middlemore holding, Mr. Thomson took up farming in the Mangere district and spent practically all his later years in that neighbourhood. He took a keen interest in local body affairs He is survived by one daughter. MR. ANTHONY WHITE (0.C.) HASTINGS, this day. A well known fat stock buyer Mr Anthony White, has died in Hastmgs, aged 62. Mr. White was foremarr of the North British Freezing Works at Port Ahuriri before the last war, and was later engaged bv Nelsons (N.Z.) Limited, as fat stock buyer for the Tomoana freezing works. He frequently judged fat lambs and cattle at shows. He also owned several racehorses, one of the best being High Court, sold some years ago.
