JAPANESE LANDING ON NEW GUINEA
ROME RADIO REPORT " Confirmed From Many Sources." Unilpcl Press Assoc lotion.—Gopyrigtit. Rec. 3 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 21. A Rome radio announcement states: "It is confirmed from many sources that Japanese troops have landed in New Guinea." ======== EGGS AND BUTTER ZONING OF DELIVERIES FIRMS ALLOTTED AREAS Many city dairies and other concerns were surprised this morning when their usual orders of eggs and butter failed to arrive. Inquiries elicited the fact that a system of zoning had been introduced and was taking effect to-day. The larger merchants concerned have been allotted certain areas in which they only will deliver, and some reorganisation of rounds has naturally been necessary. The manager of a firm which has been allotted the Queen Street delivery said this morning that the new system had come at an unusually busy period, and it would take some time to adjust a new timetable. Some firms who were accustomed to receiving their orders early in the morning, for instance, might now find that their egg and butter deliveries would be made in the late afternoon. "There is no question of old clients receiving preference," he added, "for the petrol allowance has been drastically cut so that no double-banking of an area is possible. It is unfortunate that it has come at a time like this, but it will not be so very long before a suitable scheme has been drawn up." Shopkeepers accustomed to getting their orders in the morning but who will now be included in the afternoon delivery may, if they wish, collect their order from their allotted supplier at any time.
LITTLE CHANGE
' BUTTER FOR RETAILERS "Tlfe new butter zoning system will reduce petrol consumption by more than half," said Mr. A. H. Honeyfield, manager of the Internal Marketing Division in Auckland. "Each of the butter distributors has been given his own portion of the metropolitan area and all vans will carry, all brands of butter, making deliveries twice a week. Thus the retail grocery trade will still get the same number of deliveries and the same number of brands." The zoning system, he said, had been put into dperation at short notice and no doubt small details would arise from time to time and need correction. Every effort would be made to rectify faults arising from the emergency system. "I know retailers will give us their understanding and patience," concluded Mr. Honeyfield.
