BOY DROWNED
CANOE CAPSIZES 0 ~ " HERNE BAY TRAGEDY A 14-year-old boy was drowned this morning while canoeing at Herne Bay. He was:— Gilbert Kinghorn Clark, son of-Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Clark, of 33, Tutanekai Street, Grey Lynn. With his 20-year-old brother, deceased was in a canoe at Herne Bay about 11 o'clock this morning when they were caught by a strong wind which upset the canoe. Helped by his brother he managed to reach the rocks, but apparently he was unable to hold on ana he slipped back into the water. He was not seen again until 12.45, when the body was recovered. An inquest was opened this afternoon and adjourned after evidence of identification was given.
