PACIFIC SOLIDARITY Netherlands And The Americas Declare War United Press Association.—Copyright. Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 8. The Netherlands Government has announced a state of war with Japan, and the Netherlands East Indies has declared war on Japan, accompanied by general mobilisation. The Government has invited the R.A.F. to station aircraft at strategic points in the Netherlands East Indies. A messaee from Batavia states that immediately on declaring war on Japan the Netherlands East Indies proclaimed a state of danger of air attack. Addressing the Netherlands East Indies people over the radio, the Governor-General, Dr. A. W. L Stachouwer, said: "The sudden Japanese attack on Britain and the United States, aims at establishing Japanese hegemony in the south ana south-east Pacific. Not in the last place is the Netherlands East Indies. Therefore the Netherlands East Indies accepts the Japanese challenge and takes up arms against Japan." Mobilisation of the outer possessions has been proclaimed and the internment of all Japanese subjects ordered. The mobilisation of the Netherland East Indies Army has been ordered. A Netherlands official said that the greatest strength of the Netherlands East Indies lay in the large number of submarines tlur Government possessed. Central American states which have declared war on Japan are Salvador, Cuba. Haiti. Costa Rica, Honduras, Übrico and Nicaragua. President Vargas said that the Brazilian Cabinet has agreed to give absolute solidarity to the United States. j Argentina's Attitude Argentina has informed the United States that in view of Japan's attacks, she will comply with the Havana Convention which interprets such acts as directed against the Western Hemisphere as a whole. A report from Montevideo. Uruguay, states that the President. General Baldomar, in a speech, said it was Uruguay's duty to enter into military collaboration with other American nations and construct air bases not only for its own use, but to provide facilities for the airfleets of the whole of America. Mexico is standing behind the 1940 agreement that an attack on one American nation will be regarded as an attack on all. A message from Mexico City states that the Government has ordered the army and navy to maintain a state of extraordinary vigilance on Mexico's Pacific coast against any possible landing attempt or suspicious activity of any kind by the Japanese. A message from Ottawa states that Canada has declared war on Japan. The declaration was made by Order-in-Council at an emergency Cabinet meeting. It was cabled to the King for his personal signature but is effective immediately. It is officially announced that the Chungking Government China, has Italy War ° n Japan ' Germany and The South African Government is completing formalities antecedent to declaring war on Japan. The French National Committee in London has decided that a state of war exists between all French territories and French land, naval and air forces and Japan.
