GAINED COMMISSION
ROYAL, AIR FORCE OFFICER
Sergeant-Pilot Alan H. J. Barley, R<jyal Air Force, has gained his commission as pilot-officer, according to advice received by his parents, Mr and Mrs. R. T. Barley, of Nihotupu, and formerly of Mount Eden. This officer, who is 28 years of age, was educated at Sandringham School. Kowhai Intermediate School and Seddon Memorial Technical College. In 1936 he joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force as a ground engineer, resigning two years and a half later to go to England. For a time he was a tool maker in Bristol, and after the outbreak of war he enlisted as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, being posted to the Bomber Command. He has made a number of operational flights over Europe,
