WESTFIELD MARKET SHEEP AND PIGS IMPROVE Steady rates for beef and Improved prices for sheep and pigs were the main features of the weekly fat stock sales at Westfield yesterday. Steers made up to £lo 12/(i. a rise of 2/i> on the previous week's level, ar.d cows and heifers had sale at up to £11 12/(j. Competition became keener in the sheep market as the sale progressed mainly owing to shortage of supplies. "Wethers and ewes were firmer, the former selling at from £1 3/ to £1 7/0 for prime sorts. Unfinished wethers also enjoyed a better demand. Lambs were forward in average numbers and sold at from 18/ to £1 7/9. Calves had ready sale at the outset but interest flagged after butchers had secured their requirements. Vealers realised between £5 and £7 5/ and runners made to £9 15/. Both baconers and porkers brought higher prices, the yardings being larger than last week. Baconers were up to 2/ , P° rk ers fetched from £2 3/ to £3 6/ Choppers and stores were easier.
