WOMEN'S PAY
OVERSEAS SERVICE REGULATIONS GAZETTED Regulations have been gazetted setting out the pay and allowances for members of the Women's War Service Auxiliary on overseas service. Daily rates are as follow:— Officers, 11/; sergeant, 8/6; corporal, 7/; private, 6/. This means that officers receive 5/6 less than a male second-lieutenant, and sergeants 1/6 X corporals 2/ and private 1/6 less than their corresponding male ranks. From the time they enter a mobilisation camp until departure from the country, all members of the auxiliary have to allot not less than 2/ a day to either a person wholly or partly dependent on her or to a post-office saving bank account in her name. From and including the date of departure, the allotment becomes as follows:—Officers, not less than 5/ a day; sergeants, not less than 3/6; and other ranks, not less than 3/. Provision is made for the payment of an allowance of 10/ a day if members of the service, whether officers or other ranks, have to live in a large town where rations and quarters are not available. The same rate may be paid if they are granted sick leave overseas and are accommodated in a convalescent home.
On appointment to the Expeditionary Force a woman will be given an outfit grant of £40. Auxiliary members overseas will also receive an annual outfit-upkeep allowance of £10 payable quarterly. On being struck off the strength of the Expeditionary Force after service overseas a mufti allowance of £12 10/ will be paid and no article of clothing need be returned.
