FIFTEEN PLAYERS WIN FIVE GAMES IN SECTION PLAY
The Auckland Bowling Centre's annual singles championship commenced yesterday, when 172 players took part in section games on the greens of 13 clubs. The number who qualified for post-sectional contests at Carlton, which was due to start this morning, was 15.
In the order in which they were drawn to play against each other in the first round to-day these two-lifers were:—J. R. Molloy (Carlton), \V. Whittaker (Onehunga); A. Connew (Carlton), C.B.Clarke (Grey Lynn); J. Tyndall (St. Heliers), R. S. Higginbotham (Henderson); L. Donaldson (Carlton). H. A. Wilson (Helensville)', P. Durrant (Balmoral), J. Proud (Carlton); F. Thirty others who finished up with four victories yesterday also came forward to Carlton this morning as one-lifers. Provision had been made also for any who may have tied with three wins, where there were no fives or fours in a section, but this did not occur in any of the 28 sections.
The title-holder J. F. Benson (Balmoral) suffered one loss yesterday, when on Remuera green he went down to J. A. Robertson (Waitemata). Curiously enough the latter failed to qualify.
