Canada Seeks Plans From Australia MANY TO BE PRODUCED Rec. 1 p.m. CANBERRA, this day. Canada has asked Australia for tne plans of the Owen gun. TTie Canadian Government Trade Commissioner. Lieutenant-Colonel Cosgrave. has been much impressed bv the sun s simplicity, cheapness and efficiency, and expects its production will be undertaken in Canada on a very large scale. Colonel Cosgrave emphasised the desire of the Canadian Government to obtain drawings and a sample of the gun in order that production might be commenced as early as possible. . '
The Minister of the Armv. Mr F M. Forde. promised to do all in his power to have the gun drawings and a sample of ihe trun forwarded to Canada immediately.
The Owen gun is an Australianinvented sub-machine-gun. It was invented by a plasterer, a former member of the Australian Forces, Mr. Evelyn Owen. The gun was recently subjected to gruelling tests and eclipsed two other tvpes. It possesses on3v one moving part, compared with several in the case of the others. Its main achievement is its amazing accuracy after immersion in water and slush, and burial in sand and mud comparable with those met with under the worst war conditions.
