JOINS N.Z. AIR FORCE
YOUNG DUTCH SUBJECT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. One of the first two free Netherlands subjects to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force is 18-year-old Robert Van Eupen, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Van Eupen, of Wellington, who is now receiving his ground training at Levin. Leading-Aircraft-man Van Eupen hopes that in less than a year he will be piloting a bomber over Germany, taking an active part in the fight to preserve the freedom of the two nations he holds in almost equal affection. According to his passport LeadingAircraftman Van Eupen is a Dutch subject. Actually he regards himself as at least 50 per cent British. Born in Batavia, ne has lived for five years in Canada, five years in Holland and two years and a half in Tahiti. He left there with his parents just 20 days before the collapse of France, and arrived at Wellington 14 months ago. After several weeks of study at night classes to fit himself for acceptance by the Air Force, he enlisted on his eighteenth birthday.
