Corn well Cup Trial.—The first Cornwell Cup trial to select the crew to represent Auckland at the 1942 contest, was held on Saturday in a hard and squally south-westerly wind. Eleven boats started off the Takapuna Boating Clubhouse, and after a very close race between Tawaki and Swish. Tawaki, sailed by Jack Tupp. won by 15s from Arthur Dickenson in Swish, with Jas. Ferner In Spitfire, third, lm later. A heavy squall at the finish caused several boats to retire. The trials will be continued next Saturday, starting off Westhaven at 2.30 p.m.
Kohimarama Club.—The Kohimarama Club's opening race of the season was started at 2 p.m. yesterday off me Kohl wharf, 13 boats competing. Early In the race, Mark Bell's 14-footer. Assassin, capsized when rounding the buoy off Gower's Point. Trevor Rogers, in the Rebel, at once pulled out and stood by the capsized boat, taking the crew ashore and returning for the boat. The race was called off and will be resailed next Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
