HOT FAVOURITE

GOLD LAND REPAYS SUCCESS AT ROTORUA KING DICK'S INNOVATION Investors were on the mark at the commencement of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club's annual race meeting to-day, the hot favourite. Gold Land, taking the Ladies' Bracelet from King Dazzle, fifth in order of favouritism. The weather was ideal, the attendance good and the track in nice racing condition. Gold Land, following his eucouraging form at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting in August, finished solidly to wear down the opposition in the Ladies' Bracelet Handicap and win going away. King Dazzle, who hit the front five furlongs from home, looked to have the issue in his safe keeping at the turn. but. faded over the last furlong. Early, Buccaneer was in charge, but along the back Seven- Seas and King Dazzle had run past him, and they were followed by Gold Land (rails), Strathearn and Superior Guard. King Dazzle took | the initiative at the five, and after ! being clear at the turn* was overhauled in the concluding stages by Gold Land, who won by threequarters of a length. Beryl Vaals [ finished well in third place, with Strathearn fourth, and Seven Seas and Superior Guard next.

Win for King Dick King Dick, always handily placed, finished on to win the Innovation Handicap, thus endorsing the promise he gave at the Thames meeting recently. The consistent but unlucky Mihinui had every chance. Vaalsmoss was slow to move, and Gold Blaze led early from High Spy, King Dick, Baffles Maid and Mihinui. Gold Blaze was still in charge at the halfmile, but' Baffles Maid was taken to the front at the turn. In the concluding stages she was outstayed by King Dick and Mihinui, the"former winning by half a length. BafSes Maid was a' neck further back. Acquest, who looked likelv at the distance, was a creditable fourth. Evans Head in Form Evans Head, who had been schooling well at Te Rapa. outstayed Etaro in the Hack and Hunters' Hurdle. Star Vaal was a moderate third. The disappointment was the favourite. Besiege, who led five furlongs from home but later gave ground to finish fourth. Star Vaal was followed early by Besiege, Stokowski and Mark Anthony. With a round to go Besiege and Stokowski were on terms just in front of Star Vaal, Mark Anthony and Evans Head. Evans Head, who had been improving his position, joined Etaro at the half mile and this pair led into the straight. In an interesting finish Evans Head won by a length and three-quarters from Etaro. with Star Vaal six lengths away. Besiege was closest of the others. LADIES' BRACELET HANDICAP «| £88 u| £| traphy.
