BAYSWATER BOY
SUB-LIEUT. I. E. RICKERBY, R.N. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Rickerby, of Norwood Road, Bayswater, that their son, lan E. Rickerby, who left Auckland In August, 1940, for England under Scheme B to join the Royal Navy, has passed his examination with credit and received his commission as sub-lieutenant.
He joined H.M.S. Ganges for his training and was later drafted to H.M.S. Royal Sovereign on active service, afterwards sitting for his examination. He was a keen yachtsman and part owner of the champion T class Invader, of which he was main-sheet man in all her races. During the last season he was on board, 1939-40, Invader put up a great record, winning all but one championship in her class. He was a member of the Takapuna and Tamaki Yacht Clubs and was employed on the clerical staff of the Auckland Harbour Board.
