HELP FOR RUSSIA
• • DOMINION APPEALS MONEY AND CLOTHING Unanimity and desire for combined action in giving aid to Russia were shown at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Joint Coun-. eil of the Order of St. John and Red Cross Society last evening, when there were also present representatives of the Labour movement. The chairman of the council. Sir Ernest Davis, said that it had been suggested that the Dominion council should be urgently convened to consider making application to'the Gov* eminent for an Order-in-Council, permitting a Dominion-wide appeal, confined to four weeks for rinthing only for Russian civilians, and the allocation of sufficient shipping space to enable the collections to be dispatched without delay. He had also asked the Dominion council to consider making a cash grant of £20,000 from the Sick and Wounded Fund for urgent medical and kindred supplies. Mr. W. J. Cuthbert said uiai the Federation of Labour was prepared to launch an appeal on a 'national basis. Mr. P. Roonan, representing the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union, suggested that the woollen mills should work double shifts, aT "t said that the waterside workers . would not ask for any pay to load ; such articles on the snips. i Canon RG.
