AUCKLAND CLUB

FIELDS FOR OPENING OF SPRING MEETING Excellent acceptances have been received for the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting, to be held at Alexandra i'ark on Saturday and Monday, | October 2.5 and 27. The Improvers' Handi- | cap, w'hioh has drawn a field of 34, will j be run in two divisions and the stake increased from £280 to £400 to make provision for £200 for each division. ; The second division will be rum on LatbouT Day. There are 1 j acceptors for the Jellicoe Handicap, main event, run over a mile and a half, 3.24 limit. Seven of them are an the limit, and the improving Jack I'ott* mare Grand Dame, a member of M. Stewart's team, is sure to enter early discussions. She is a very smart pacer, but will probably find it no easy task to defeat the speedy Double Peter, wtho is right at the top of his form at present. Double Peter likes the Kpsom course, and when last produced there, in August, he won the Mu.-wev Memorial very easily. At tnin, Crucible and Bronze Queen are also capable of running a fast mile and a half, but Double Peter and Grand Dame are preferred to them. On 12yds, the A m erica n-ibred Bing Crosby is bound to attract considerable attention. it took the Grattan-At-Law pacer a (rood while to become acclimatised, but he recently struck good form, winning last month at both New Brighton and Hutt Park in smart time. Advice from tihe South is to the effect that he has improved since then. Waipaihi is another South Island horse on 12yds, - bait his pavbliic efforts for over a yea/r have not ibeen satisfactory, a record of 11 successive unplaced performances being against him. He should be held safe by Bing Crosby. Our Jewel and Uenwlcu, 34yds, aire two solid pacers, and Uemrku would only need to roprodoce his record run on this track of 2.13 2-5 to win. The Key de Oro horse has been disappointi-DR since (he met with a mishap at PertJh a coaiple of seasons ago, but if McMillan has him right on Saturday he will be thard to beat. Our Jewel will be bracketed with Josedale Grattan, 60yds, and therefore is assured of support, but the early fancies are Double Peter, Bing Orosby, Grand Dame a<nd Uenufcu. In tihe Electric Handicap, one mile and a quarter, 2.92, Bedford, Stargum and Young Parry, on the Jimit, have good credentials over the distance, and they are reported to. be working attractively. However, Sentiment, 12yds, is regaining his form of 12 (months ago, and must be considered. He will be bracketed with Kinawley, a.nd it is a strong ooralbination. Te Roto, 24yds, is much improved and, with Sentiment, Bedford and Young Parry, should figure in preliminary discussions. Details of tihe acceptors are:— IIJO—WAITEMATA HANDICAP (Tretters) of £ZM.
