EVELYN FIRTH HOME

THE executive of the Newmarket Returned Soldiers' Club has sent an emphatic protest to the Prime 1 Minister and the Minister of Defence against the decision to close the 2 Evelyn Firth Home. The resolution dealt with the great benefits that T treatment in the home had afforded ) returned men. It was stated that > many a partially disabled soldier had been enabled again to take hisproper place in society through treatment received there, and many of the permanent disability cases I' have had their sufferings greatly ' alleviated, while some of the serious I cases have had all that could be ' desired before the sounding of the I. Last Post. The executive contends that the cost of running the home, £60 a week, is not excessive, and that the closing of the home will not reduce 5 the expenditure of keeping returned soldiers. "Let us think not only of the present inmates of the Home, but also of the Second N.Z.E.F., and L t see that the promises of 1920 are realities and not platitudes or just words. We demand the retention of the home," states the executive.
