Red Tape Cut
London Correspondent
AMERICANS In London give full marks to Mrs. Wales Latham, president of "Bundles For Britain," for managing to keep an organisation of over 900 branches "free of red tape and bureaucratic methods." There is, therefore, the minimum delay between examination of the situation, submission of reports and reception of funds. The London committee's headquarters are in a charming house In the shadow of Big Ben which belongs to Mrs. John Rathbone, M.P., who serves on the committee. I hear that the quality of clothing sent across the Atlantic improves with every shipment, new garments taking more and more precedence over renovated ones. Ctrl Caddie* Golf clubs are beginning to experience a rather acute shortage of caddies. Most of the "regulars" have been called up and only the veterans remain. In some instances the experiment of recruiting girl caddies nas been tried. Even they are difficult to obtain, and the trial has been anything but a success. Girl caddies were often employed on Welsh seaside courses even before the war. They were much keener on the job than were the boys and, once prejudice against them disappeared, they were accorded full marks. So they were at Lt Touquet, Biarritz and other French links, But English golfers have never taken kindly to them. They feel self-conscious at once if they go round the links followed by a little lassie burdened with a heavy bag.
