INTOXICATION ADMITTED
TRUCK DRIVER FIXED £23
Arrested on Friday, August 29, for being in a. state of intoxication while in charge of a motor truck in Symonds Street, a motor driver, Albert Stanley Bowden, aged 46, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court to-day and admitted the offence.
Senior-Sergeant Joyce said a traffic inspector on duty at the corner of Symonds Street and Karangahape Road at 5.10 p.m. on the date mentioned saw a truck swerve. Bowden was seen to be under the influence of liquor. Later, the examining doctor gave as his opinion that Bowden was drunk.
It was pointed out by Mr. Winter, who appeared for Bowden, that there had been no accident and that no one was hurt. Bowden, a married man with two children, had never been in trouble before. He had been driving for many years and had never been involved in an accident.
The magistrate fined Bowden £25 and cancelled his license for 12 months.
