RECRUITS FOR ARMY
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. Nearly 50 per cent of the 175 recruits medically examined in Northland centres during the past week for overseas and territorial service were classed either as temporarily or permanently unfit. The numbers were 90 fit and 85 unfit. At the board sittings 101 Europeans paraded and 69 were classed as fit and 32 unfit. Of the 74 Maoris only 21 were classed fit. 53 being placed in the temporarily unfit for permanently unfit class.
