Crooners K.MHO ,\NI> MI'SIC ; Rec. 2 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. i "Crooners till a niche for the musical hoi polli. so 1 suppose they 1 must be tolerated." declared Dr. A. i Burnard. adjudicator at the Sydney Eisteddfod which ended yesterday. "Crooners and their ilk are very clever, but they get on my nerves. They distort notes, beats and vowels, in fact seeing tiieui in action is as bad as listening io them." Dr. Burnard. however, disagreed with Dr. Lyons, of New Zealand, in his regard of radio as "the most dangerous disease of modern living." Dr. Burnard argued that radio was a boon to the musicians who revelled in celebrity recitals in their own homes instead of having to attend them. Dr. Lyon, adjudicator at the Wellington competitions, referring today to the Sydney cable on criticism oi crooners and" radio, denied that he had used the expression "most dangerous disease of modern living." it was the misuse of radio that perturbed him. said Dr. Lyon. He bad asked listeners to make up their minds what they would like to hear and to let that something be good. Radio, he considered, was a wonderful educational institution.
