AMERICAN REPORT
Remarkable Story Of Workings
In United States
NEW YORK, Aug. 31
The New York Herald-Tribune publishes a sensational story of the operations of a clique of Viehv agents, working under the direct control of Henri Have, the French Ambassador, whose activities, it alleges, are designed to create sentiment for the Nrvzi new order.
The Washington correspondent of the Herald-Tribune says: "The men of Vichy here have actually thwarted British military moves. For instance. advance plans of General de Gaulle's ill-fated Dakar expedition were smuggled to Vichy via New York. So was a list of French officers aiding the Free French movement.
"The present programme of Vichy's underground organisation in the United States specifically aims at the creation of a network to bring Vichy's message of defeatism before the isolationists. There is evidence of such activities being financed through the United States' willingness not to freer.*: funds in order to placate Vichy, hoping that somehow the Petain Government' can be won a\v;iv from collaboration with Hitler."
