MINING NEWS
At the annual meeting of Mount Kasl Mines. Ltd. (Fiji), Mr. E. J. Coote. chairman, said that although ore reserves indicated a short life for the mine, there was little doubt that further sources of supply would be discovered before these reserves were exhausted. Efforts would be made to improve the reserve position by development work, especially in the south end of the mine. YIELDS OF COMPANIES Gillespie's Beach (Westland). —47',-;OZ for 265 hours from 30,264 yards. Clutha River (Otago).—4ooz for 132 hours. Snowy River (Reefton).—l79',joz from 3100 yards in 125 hours.
Pato and Asnnz.ii. — For three months to August I. Pato Consolidated Gold Dredging. Ltd.. dredged 3.697.000 cubic yards for 17.241 ounces nf fine gold, and recovered with its hydraulic units 2303 ounces fine gold, the total value being 684.040 dollars (U.S.). During the same period Asnazu Gold Dredging. Ltd.. handled 230.000 cubic yards, recovering 4137 ounces fine gold, equivalent to 144.795 dollars.
