OUT ON STRIKE
KAMO COAL MINERS
"LUKE WARM BATH WATER" (0.C.) WHANG ARE I, this clay. Miners at the Kamc mine, near Whangarei, came out on strike yesterday. It is understood that the dispute concerns the supply of hot water, miners going on duty stating that the water in the bath house was only luke warm, and alleging that it would not be sufficiently hot for their use when they finished their shift.
The miners are not expected to return to work until Monday. A loss of 200 tons of coal will result from the men failing to work yesterday.
There have been no developments to-day in connection with the strike. Yesterday afternoon an officer of the Labour Department visited the mine and investigated the position, but no details of the result of his inquiries are available.
It appears that the men intend to return to work on Monday morning when it is believed there will be negotiations with the management to ensure that there will be no further difficulty in connection with the hot water supply at the bath houses.
It is understood that trouble with the hot water supply had been experienced earlier in the week when the men indicated that a repetition would result in the men ceasing work.
