AUCKLAND'S PART
NATIONAL WAR LOAN
CITY SUBSCRIBES £785,170
The fact that the total contributions made in Auckland yesterday to the National War Loan amounted to £96,140 was revealed to-day by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum. The Dominion total now stood at £7,097,430.
"Auckland's contribution to the War Loan now stands at £785,170," said Mr. Allum, "and in many respects that can be considered encouraging. However, when I mention that Wellington yesterday subscribed £95,130 it will be seen that Auckland was only £1000 ahead— and that is not good enough for Auckland! I hope that by Tuesday Auckland's contribution will be well over the million mark."
Mr. Allum explained that the £785,170 so far applied for did not include that part of the loan which would be taken by the trading banks and insurance companies. The whole of the burden which had to be shouldered in order to carry on New Zealand's war effort successfully should not be left to the large institutions, said Mr. Allum. and everyone with money to invest should make an effort to help the country at this tiipe of national emergency.
