RAILWAY GUARANTEE
NEW BRITISH AGREEMENT Rec. 2 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 29. To avoid a further increase in railway fares and freight charges, the Government has concluded a new agreement with the railways guaranteeing them a fixed annual payment of £43,000,000, out of which the railways must pay 50 per cent of all war damage.
The old agreement guaranteed the railways a minimum revenue of £40,000,000. but covered them for war damage up to £10,000,000. The new agreement is part of a plan an ; nounced in Sir Kingsley Woods' Budget speech for stabilising essential goods anu services.
