ENGLAND HAVE REVENGE ON SCOTLAND BY THREE GOALS TO ONE AT SOCCER

LONDON 7 , July 10. A little more than a year ago England and Scotland met in a football war-charity Soccer match at Newcastle, and Scotland won by three goals to two. Seventy-five thousand people gathered at the Hampden Park ground in Glasgow on a recent afternoon and saw England gain her revenge in a similar encounter, turning the tables by three goals to one.

It was a good effort on the part of the English players after Scotland had taken the lead, with the only goal the team was destined to score, before the match was ten minutes old.

England equalised just before halftime, and it must be admitted that during this part of the game Scotland appeared in every way the better team, ough they did not again succeed in Penetrating the English defence. The star of the match was Don Welsh the Charlton half-back, who has recently proved a great success at ttntre-forward. He did splendid work in this international, and scored two of •is country's three goals. «Kains( W W k i bef< ? re - in 4116 international for Entile ' ® SCOred all four S° als lor England-not , bad record Apart the nntct or two good individual efforts »e outstanding feature of this match amazin S staying powers showed y every member of the two teams tnish W n« a hard l™ lch from start ■ide ' v ( J ua ' ter being given by either tt>ese men, some of them ™a?Hion workers, others in Civil De•errfcJTi? h r® m l on J e or other of the j t( a». who have had no real football "•wing to speak of since the season'

started, never let up and seemed very nearly as fresh when the final whistle sounded as they did when the ball was first kicked off.

It says a lot for the keenness with which they must privately have worked to keep themselves fit in their spare time.
