Mr. John Rimmer, of Brown's Bay (seen above), who is sergeant-major in the King's Empire Veterans, has a record of 21 years' service with British regiments. During his 16 years with the Gordon Highlanders he earned three medals with 10 clasps. He wears the India medal with clasps for the relief of Chitral (1895), Tirah (1897-1898), Punjab frontier (1897-1898); South Africa medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Paardeburg, Dreifontein, Johannesburg, Belfast, and the King's South African medal with clasps for 1901 and 1902. During the Great War he served for over five years as an instructor in the 7th King's Lherpool Regiment.
