FOR THE MOTHERS
OBSTETRICAL SCHOOL (Bv Telepraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) \\ ELLINGTON, this day. The establishment of an obstetrical school in the North Island was advocated in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mrs. Dreaver (Government, Waitemata) when the education estimates were under discussion. During the last two or three years many lives had been lost that could have been saved had there been a higher education in respect of obstetrics, she said. The course was a short one. With a complete medical scheme under the Social Security Act almost in view it was necessary to have the school because it was the general practitioner who must have the knowledge of obstetrics.
Mothers knew how difficult it was to engage a doctor, Mrs. Dreaver said. An obstetrical post-graduate school wouid not only help the midwives, but would place New Zealand on the map in so far as it would keep young doctors in the country who at present were obliged to go overseas to obtain the required knowledge. It would enable research to be carired out, and money devoted to this object would be well spent.
