MAORI PATIENTS
HOSPITAL TREATMENT denial of charges An emphatic denial of the statement of Kir Apirana Ngata in the House of Representatives that different treatment was received by Maori and pakeha patients in public hospitals is made by Mr. Tuhoropunea Moerua, of the Te Koropatu Pa, Te Kuini. His letter is endorsed by the Maniapoto Central Maori Committee. '»< myself, have now been a patient in the hospitals under the jurisdiction of the Waikato Hospital Board for the past 11 weeks," he writes, "five weeks of which were spent in the Te Kuiti Hospital and the remainder at Hamilton. During the whole of this period I have received the utmost courtesv and attention from the medical officers, sisters and nurses, and words cannot express aiy appreciation of the many kindnesses I have received from them. "During my period in hospital I nave at various times visited other Maori patients, and my views are wholeheartedly supported, and it came as a great surprise to read the report of Sir Apirana's speech. v\ hatever may happen in other hospitals I feel it is my duty to reiterate that Maoris in the Waikato Hospital Board area have ahvavs received impartial attention and the utmost care, courtesy and consideration."
