Vain Lad Finds A New Owner At Christchurch At £150

Auckland owner-trainer E. E. Cressey has the happy knack of making a money-spinner of practically every horse that comes into his hands. He has done it again with Vain Lad.

AND where is there a better anvil j upon which to forge a success; than the aged son of Win Alto and j Vain Lass, now aged 11 years. I Purchased in Australia some years ago by Mr. E. G. Bridgens and Dr. M. G. Pezaro at a cost of £300, Vain Lad won several races for the partnership, and was ultimately disposed of for a "tenner." Vain Lad was not seen again for a long time, but he attracted the attertion of the Auckland sportsman. Mr. R. Hosking. at a picnic meeting or a show, and he was bought foi the proverbial song—this time £8. Mr Hosking returned Vain Lad to F J.'Smith to train, and the squire of "Village Farm." Takanim, quickly won a race with him for his patron Minor placings added up, too, and the total earned was soon £300.

Enough was cried, and again Vain Lad was up for sale by auction. Mr. Cressev bought him for £19 10/. That was a few months ago. Mr Cressev took him to Epsom and Vain Lad did the decent thing by winning, his stablemate, Modern I Ladv. also owned and trained by "E E *' acting as runner-up.
