(JARY GRANT will play an elderly English parson in "This Changing World," which is casting against type with a vengeance! * * * * ♦ ♦ ♦ + JOAN CRAWFORD, Robert Taylor and Greer Gar son are scheduled to face the cameras in "When Ladies Meet." Robert Z. Leonard will direct this new M-G-M production. Miss Crawford last appeared in "A Woman's Face." Taylor's new starring film "Billy the Kid" is currently being released in America, and Miss Garson has recently finished a costarring role with Walter Pidgeon in "Blossoms in the Dust." ♦ ♦ * + A YOUNG dancer, Sunny O'Dea, has been signed for a feature role in Columbia's "You'll Never Get Rich," film musical which co-stars Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. Simultaneously the studio announces the addition of two top radio singers —Martha Tilton and Kay St. Germaine—to the cast of this elaborate singing and dancing feature. * * * * "ELEANOR POWELL'S next starring film will be "I'll Take Manila," which Eddie Buzzell will direct for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Buzzell will start production after he completes "Married Bachelors." Miss Powell has recently completed "Lady Be Good," in which Ann Sothern is co-starred. _ ■ i-

3JARLENE DIETRICH'S daughter Maria makes her acting debut in David Selznick's series of Hollywood stage plays. If she is any good, a film contract follows. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ J£D GARGAN, who has played cops in 14 past consecutive roles, hurdles type casting in the Damon Runyon story, "Tight Shoes." He plays a "small-time" racketeer whose one great fear in life is—the police. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ]\f ICKEY ROONEY gets the leading role in "Happy Days," the play which lost the Hakim Brothers between 15.000 and 20,000 dollars on Broadway. But they sold it to Metro for 40,000 dollars (roughly £6500).
