DUTY OF EMPLOYERS ! ; WHANGAREI COUNTY VIEW >! ij(O.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. ■ | Obedience of the regulations governing the registration for national |Service hy men between the ages of ;,18 and 45 was favoured by the !i Whangarei County Council at its 'n»2eting yesterday, rather than notice '.of a statement by the Minister for .jNational Service that action should rjnot be taken by employers against ' employees who had not yet received 'notification of registration. The question was raised when the ijclerk, Mr. H. C. Hemphill, drew the • attention of the council to the regulations imposing a penalty on any i employer employing an unregistered f'man in the age categories. ■ | "This is an extraordinary posirjtion," commented the chairman. Mr. r'J. A. S. MucKay. "The regulations iwere brought into force and yet the Minister said that employers should jjnot take action against employees iwho could not produce their registration cards." '• The council was faced hy the .prospect of a fine if it contravened - the regulations, while the Minister ~ had admitted that while action in an unregistered employee ' was in accordance with the regulations, that action would be prema--1 ture. The chairman considered that ?.the best thing the council could do jwas to carry out the regulations. | It was decided to abide by the regulations.
