OBITUARY

>in. HUGH r. HAY LOCAL BODY SERVICE Chairman of the Mount Wellington Road Board. Mr. Hugh Colbeck Hay. of Mountain Road. Mount Wellington Highway, has died in Auckland, aged 56. He had been chairman of the hoard for four years and a member for about 10 years. Born in Epsom. Mr. Hay lived in Auckland e all his life, farming his property at Mount Wellington." For the last few years, however, he had retired from active farming. A keen bowler, he was a member of both the Ellerslie and St. Helier's Clubs and a patron of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. Hay is survived bv his wife, two sons and two daughters. One of the sons is "serving with the N.Z.E.F. in Egypt. The funeral was held this afternoon.

j MRS. GEORGE BUCKLEY

Wife of Captain George Buckley. V.D., bandmaster of the Papakura Camp Band, Mrs. Ruth Bueklev. has died in Auckland, aged GS. Mrs. Buckley, who was formerly Miss Signal, of Wanganui, was well known in musical circles. She was also keenly interested in' church work. She is survived by her husband and two sons, both of whom are serving with the R.A.F. One of the sons. Pilot-Oflicer J. Buckley, was studying music at the Leipzig Conservatorium before the outbreak of war.

MR. WILLIAM PINCHES

Well known in Auckland business circles, Mr. William Pinches has dictl at the residence of his daughter. Mrs. E. B. de Courcy, 21, Lawrence Street, Heme Bay. Mr. Pinches, who was born in London and educated at Blue Coat School. Christ's College, came to New Zealand as a 3'oung man and practised as an architect and civil engineer ir. the Wanganui district. In 1010. he came to Auckland and a short time later was appointed Auckland representative of the firm of Baldwin. Son and Carey, patent agents. He held the position until his retirement. Mr. Pinches is survived by four daughters and one son.

MR. T. R. VILE

Ninth son of the late Mr. .T. Vile. M.P., of Manawatu. Mr. Thomas R. Vile has died at Te Puke at the age of GO. Mr. Vile served in both the Boer War and the Great War and was severely wounded at Gallipoli. Before purchasing his property at Te Puke a year or two ago. he had been farming in the Halcombe district. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.

MRS. ELLA T. MORTOX

A foundation member ami vicepresident of the Auckland Mothers' t'n ion. to which cause she gave many years of service. Mrs. Ella T. Morton has died at her residence, "Taumata," Korau Road, Epsom. Mrs. Morton, who was aged 78, was the widow of the late Mr. H. B. Morton. Born at South Yarra. Melbourne. she was married in 1883 and had lived at Epsom ever since. Mrs. Morton was a staunch friend of the Maori people for more than 50 years, coming in close contact with them at her country home at Tarukenga. near Rotorua. Mr. Morton died in 1928. She is survived by one daughter and two sons. There are eight grandchildren.

A reduction of one halfpenny a gallon has been made in the retail price of petrol in Napier. This is brought about by recent investigations into the costs of distribution of petrol, following the erection of bulk tanks in Napier. Representations are to be made to have the reduction applied to Hastings and other Hawke's Bay centres.
