CITY'S COMEBACK AS CONTENDER FOR LEAGUE HONOURS

i The prominent position that City Rovers hold in the Auckland Rugby League championship must be encouraging to followers of the old club which dominated championship honours from 1919 to 1923. The red and blacks slipped back badly in the last sixteen years and never once held a prominent position when the final was neared. Last season the Rovers did well on occasions, but 1941 has definitely been their best year since 1923. The success is deserved, for at the start of this season, when the Auckland Rugby League was deciding the status of senior clubs. City Rovers was actually asked a question. "Can you field a senior team, and what are the prospects of keeping the team going?" , The answer was shown early in the first round, and to-day City is in the front line for a crack at the championship. After their gruelling match'and success against Richmond the team was out doing training on the next dav (Sunday). A team of fit players and all keen has been the keynote of a highly successful season.
