BOXING CROWD SAW DOUBLE AT TOWN HALL

MANY of the crowd at the Town Hall last Monday night noticed the striking resemblance of Clarrie Gordon to one of his seconds. And well they might, for the pair are twin brothers.

Not only in countenance are the pair alike; Viv, as the second is called, also knows quite a lot about the fight game. When the family lived in Taranaki about eight years ago both boys took part in amateur tourneys, though Clarrie the heavier, was in a class above his brother. Those amateur bouts were stepping stones for a trip to the Olympic Games at Berlin in 1936 for Clarrie. There he took one of the very few

beatings of nis career, but he was far from disgraced. He was beaten by Karlsen, of Finland, the runnerup at the pi-evious Games who filled the same position on this occasion. It was a referee's decision as the judges disagreed. Gordon started his professional career two seasons ago with a T.K.O.

defeat of Bert McKay; three fights this winter have not broken his winning sequence. Fans are looking forward to him being matched with Ernie Underwood on the latter's return from Australia. Underwood has had a string of eleven victories, all except one being by a K.O. (the most recent last Saturday at Newcastle). Underwood was not as robust as Gordon when last seen in Auckland, and has been fighting at 9.4, whereas Gordon is not likely to get below 9.9.
