METHUEN ENDS CAREER

FLEMINGTON, August 2.—Methuen, who was under armed guard until taken to the mounting enclosure, fell at the last jijinp in the Australian Hurdle to-day, broke his near foreleg and was destroyed.

His rider, T. Ryan, merely bruised his foot. After Methuen's failure in last week's hurdle race, his rider, W., Cutler, was disqualified for 12 months for "dishonest action and improper conduct."

Cutler appealed to the Y.R.C. committee. and his disqualification was lifted during the week. Cutler's appeal was upheld by the V.R.C. committee on Friday. Cutler claimed the mount on Methuen to-day, but Ryan, who was engaged after Cutler was disqualified, was given the mount.
