CANADIAN TROOPS

MORE REACH BRITAIN One Of Largest Convoys Crosses Safely British Official Wireless. Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 1. The third Canadian division under the command of Major-General C. B Price has just arrived in Britain. In addition to thousands of soldiers the large convoy also brought hundreds of United States technicians and several hundred airmen trained in Canada. Welcoming them on their arrival the Secretary for War, Captain H. D. Margesson, paid a tribute to «the fact that every man was a volunteer, who had come to fight because he believed in the principle of freedom and not because of any Gestapo at his back. Many lumberjacks for service in Britain were among those brought by the convoy, and there were American airmen to join the Eagle Squadron. The only incident during the voyage was the dropping of depth charges by a warship which swept up and down the convoy. "We had to be on our toes all the time," said a naval officer. Munitions and food for Britain were carried by the ships, and the convoy is described as one of the largest to cross the Atlantic. The arrival of the third Canadian division implements the promise of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, that every month will see an increase in the Canadian forces in Britain.
