MORE STATE HOMES

DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME POSITION IN AUCKLAND (By Telegraph. —Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. "These difficulties have now been overcome and there were recently handed over to the State Advances Corporation for letting about 200 more new State homes in Auckland," said the Minister of Housing, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to-day, when asked if it had been found possible to overcome the shortage of some equipment which was preventing the letting of . many newly-built State houses in Auckland suburbs. "Auckland is keeping up its average of new homes built quite well in spite of the War," Mr. Armstrong continued. However, there was still a big demand as there was in many other parts of New Zealand. Discussing the Slum Clearance Bill which is now being drafted, the Minister said that although he had earlier mentioned Christchurch as a city where it needed to be applied, the need was even greater in Auckland and Wellington. Mr. Armstrong said that if the bill became law it was intended that it could be put into operation in whole or in part in any part of New Zealand at any time by Order-in-Council.
