Asked for a statement regarding the prevention of enemy trading to Marseilles, the Minister'of Kconomic Warfare, Dr. Hugh Dalton, said the greatest importance attached to checking trallic to and from Marseilles since the bulk of cargoes landed there were seized by the Germans and Italian, and outward bound ships carried enemy exports. While the position is still not satisfactory, a steady toll is being taken of ships attempting to evade control.

During May and Juno six ships trading between metropolitan France and French colonies had been intercepted. So far there had been lour interceptions this month. Two of these ships were intercepted by units of the Netherlands Navy.

Dr. Dalton said that he would like to acknowledge the valuable assistance which the Netherlands Navy is giving in the enforcement of the blockade.
