LINEN FLAX PRODUCTION <*■*•) CHKISTCHURCH. Tuesday. Figures are now available from six linen flax factories. The highest average return ior an individual crop was £33 4.10 an acre st Tapanui Otago. and the figure per acre for all crops accepted and rejected, ranged from £9 19 to £14 19/. The factories concerned are at Washdyke. Makikihi. otautau. Balclutha, Wiuton and Tapanui. In some districts shortness of straw and other factors prevented crops bein? accepted, but unexpectedly heavy seeding brought some returns to very high figures. In some cases to about £20 an acre. No difficulty In obtaining the. full 25.000 acres for next season is expected by the linen flat section. Mr. J. W. Badfleld. director of the section, said to-day that in a number of districts applications already totalled more than the area allocated to those districts. Enouch flax was in sight in the districts affected to warrant the erection of the new factories.
