SOLDIERS' LOANS
PURCHASE OF FURNITURE
That the Government should be asked to increase the mufti allowance to returned soldiers and to xpedite arrangements for repatriation loans for furniture was proposed by the Waikato zone to the Auckland Pr-ovincial Patriotic Council last evening. The Waikato committee stated that cases had come to its notice where discharged soldiers were hampered from settling down by lack of furniture. The delay was much regretted, as when men had to make their own arrangements they generally had to pay considerably more than if cash had been available It suggested that in the meantime rehabilitation sub-committees should be authorised to make advances for this purpose ,on condition that the soldier made application as soon as possible to the Government. Any money then granted would be used to repay the Patriotic Fund advance The chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum' to Auckland Provincial I atriotic Council would support the suggestions.
