Sent to the Hoor wit 11 a haid i iill to flic head, lluuhie Slici idan, of Auckland, ■Mjuatted on the canvas for a few seconds in the filth round of his first professional contest with Billy Brown, of u' "llington, and then roue to be proinprly battered again with blows that saw mm t.<'icc collapse against the ropes. Then, just as the bell sounded for the end ot the round lief croc H. I!r van intervened and awarded tne fight t'o Blown. Weigh ing 8.!), Sheridan was giving away 41b, but the decisive factor against him *as the greater height and range of his opponent, whose blows at long range had touch more power. Throughout the contest it was obvious that Sheridan would be. punished unless he got in close. This lie •uccessfully did in the early rounds when he showed determination and he more than held his own in the in-fighting. Brown used his left to advantage at longer range and the fight was carried ■long in a spirited style for four rounds. Worried by Brown's blows to his head in the fifth round, Sheridan discarded his mouthpiece and attempted to carry the to Brown, but walked straight into the right which sent him to the floor. He rose gamely, but dazed, and was an eaH.v target for the attack which Brown carried to him.

The Wellington man. who has had a fair amount of professional experience, impressed by his victory. Amateur Bouts Cntoh-weighte.—A. Brear, 9.2, beat K. Wells, 0.1, on points. After an even opening round Brear was on top in the second, and Wells was down for six at the pong. Welle showed clever evasion, but Brear held the winning margin to the end. E. Black, 9.4, beat T. Lewie (Wellington), 9.0. on points. The pair fought in a spirited way through the four rounds, Black having a little the better of the final round. Welter-weight.—R. Tait, 10.7, beat E. Crawford, 10.4. Tait was well ahead on points in the second round, when the referee stopped the bout. Lightweight.—J. Sam peon, 0.9. and W. Morton, 9.9, boxed a draw after four even rounds.
