• TRI VALVE, winner of the 1927 • J * Melbourne Cup and £28,375 \ 1 in stakes, was auctioned and sold ■ _• after races at Alice Springs, Cen- ! ■ tral Australia, on Monday for £7 i J 7/ to Bob Buck, who immediately ■ J sold him to Ben Nicker for £9 9/. * I So ended another chapter in I ■ the life of a horse who, 14 years J a ago, was the greatest staying i • three-year-old in Australia and • J the idol of thousands of race- J I goers. I I Trivalve, who is now 17, was J I bred and raced by the late Mr. I • E. E. D. Clarke and trained by the J ( late James Scobie. In addition { I to the Melbourne Cup he won the I J Victoria Derby and the A.J.C. J ■ Derby. As a sire he was a failure, i ■ He stood at his breeder's stud at ■ , Melton for some years, and then J I was sold to go to Adelaide, where I ■ he sired a few minor winners. ■
