DECREASE IN APRIL

IMPORTS ALSO DOWN

Exports during April were valued at £5,561,000, or £2,852,000 less than in the corresponding month last year, according to the return of overseas tiade for the month, a summary of which was issued by the Customs Department in Wellington to-day. April imports were down by £505,000 to £3,559,000. The excess of exports was £1,702,000 against £4,059.000 in that month in 1910.

For the four months ended April imports, at £12,353,00(\ are the lowest for five years, as also are exports, at £21,700,000. Following is a comparison of the returns for April in the last five years:— . The total is the highest for the past five seasons. Imports for the ten months were valued at £36,966.000, an increase of £1.344.000 over the corresponding period last year. The favourable commodity balance, £16,843.000. is the greatest for the past five seasons.
