FOUR SOLDIERS CHARGED

"H'm. We are getting a lot of soldiers before this Court lately," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday when the third man in khaki stepped into the dock. Altogether there were four soldiers charged, three having been arrested and the other appearing on summons. Charles Lewis Zimmerman, aged 22. denied that he assaulted John 13. Morton on Saturday night, but after hearing the evidence, including that of one witness, that Zimmerman struck complainant a "king hit'' and knocked him out. the magistrate lined the soldier £2. Taxi Fare Not Paid Next to appear was a Maori soldier, Kei \Yi Temete, aged 24. He pleaded guilty to a charge of incurring a debt or liability for 9/6 with a taxi-driver, thereby obtaining credit by fraud. It was stated by Senior-Sergeant Joyce that Temete engaged the taxidriver to take him to the Mental Hospital. On returning to the citv Temete said he could not pay for the fare, as he only had 1/11. In addition to being fined £1, the Maori was ordered to pay the fare. A Serious Charge Much more serious was the charge brought against Thomas Leslie Daley, aged 20. the third soldier It was alleged that on May 29 he robbed Charles Keith Brown of the sum of ioO and that at the time of the alleged robbery he used personal violence to Brown.
On the application of DetectiveSergeant X" aider, the accused, for whom Mr. Noble appeared, was remanded until June 23. f° url h soldier was a corporal who answered two summons charges under the Bankruptcy Act. He was remanded m custody until this mornin., when admitted to probation^
