CHURCH ARMY WORK
ACTIVITIES IN EGYPT
Details of the work of the Church Armj' in Egypt are contained in a report from Captain R. W. Blair. Church Army officer in the area. A new hut has been completed and is in use. with Captain W. J. Hughes, of Papakura. in charge. The Church Army is also operating the Base Reception Institute which has had to be enlarged and now contains facilities for indoor games and reading and writing, materials having been supplied by the Patriotic Board Commissioner, Colonel Waite.
Some idea of activities being carried on is gained from the report that 43.000 letterheads and 25.000 envelopes have been issued, several thousand books distributed and quantities of cigarettes and chocolate issued to hospital patients and other needy cases, including troops recently returned from Greece. "We supplied several thousand troops with cups of tea, quantities of cigarettes, chocolate and biscuits for a few days after the landing," says Captain Blair in his report with reference to the return from Greece. "One could safely say that the comforts supplied on this occasion were appreciated even more than all those that have been supplied during the 1 last year or so in camp."
